7 Herbs you can grow for a medicinal garden!

Growing medicinal herbs may seem like a hard task, but realistically you don't have to be an expert in herbal remedies to do so. A lot of herbs have amazing healing properties and are super easy to grow.

You can easily swap out your drugstore medication and try a natural remedy instead. You'll save money and pick up a new mindful hobby on the way. I've listed 7 herbs you can grow at home that have amazing healing properties and in my opinion are must haves.

The 7 healing herbs you must have

Lavender has to be my favourite plant. It's easy on the eyes, smells amazing, a perennial and bees love it! Add in some healing properties and this plant can't be beat.

Lavender has soothing properties making it great for treating anxiety, insomnia, depression, restlessness and even headaches. There are a number of ways you can also use this plant. You can make herbal tea, collect the buds and but them into small breathable bags for their scent or make your own oil!

Chamomile is definitely in my top 5 for favourite plants. They're such a cute little addition to any garden and have great healing properties.

Chamomile is an anti-inflammatory, it helps with pain relief, sleeping and decreases stress. Not to mention it also boosts immunity and helps to treat the common cold. You can easily make herbal tea from chamomile and even dry the flowers for later use.

Lemon balm, like mint, is a perennial. If you plant it once it will keep coming back, so it's important to keep this herb contained or it might take over. With that being said, you'll have an unlimited supply since it produces so quickly.

Lemon balm is great for boosting cognitive functions, relieving indigestion, treating nausea and reducing stress and anxiety. Lemon balm makes for great herbal tea, hot or cold, and you can add it to a number of dishes.

Peppermint is also a perennial, but remember to keep this one contained so it doesn't take over. Peppermint is a super easy herb to grow and is also very versatile.

Peppermint is great for treating nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, muscle pain, anxiety, menstrual pains and the common cold. You can add this herb into a number of dishes or make an herbal tea with the leaves to gain the benefits.

Oregano is already added into so many dishes and it also has great healing properties. People have been using oregano for centuries as an herbal medicine and you can grow it right at home!

Oregano help with aching muscles, cramping, indigestion, colds and boosts overall health. This herb is packed with antibacterial properties making it a great addition to any garden. To gain the benefits you can add oregano to your dishes or even make an herbal tea from dried leaves.

(6) Thyme

Thyme is a culinary staple and should also be considered an herbal one. Thyme is a part of the mint family, making it easy to grow. It's also a perennial so it will keep coming back.

Thyme is a great remedy for coughs, sore throat, boosting immunity since its jam-packed with vitamin C and can even boost mood! You can make thyme tea or add it into your daily meals to gain it's health benefits.

Garlic is yet another staple in many dishes. I know I can't go without it. Unfortunately its not a perennial, so you will have to consistently plant it. But planting garlic is super easy and doesn't take a lot of work.

Garlic is great for your heart health. Studies have shown that garlic can lower blood pressure, cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease. This super food is also great for boosting the immune system and helping to fight colds and flu.
