How to grow Thyme

Thyme is actually a part of the mint family, and it’s just as easy to grow!

When growing thyme there are a few things you need to remember:

  • Thyme needs full sun and loves the heat,

  • It can be a little hard to grow from seed so it is recommended you get an already started plant from your local market OR propagate from a cutting,

  • Thyme roots do not like to stay wet, the best way to explain is this plant loves a good drought,

  • When watering, make sure the soil is completely dry before doing so,

  • The best time to harvest thyme is right before the plant flowers, and

  • To harvest cut off the top 5-6 inches, leave all the woody parts and make sure the plant still has 5-6 inches leftover so it can replenish itself.

Like sage, thyme has many benefits. This plant has anti-bacterial properties which can help with acne, lower blood pressure and boost your immunity. It also produces flowers which help our bees!
