If you have a garden, I'm sure you've had to deal with a few pests from time to time. There are dozens of sprays and repellents on the market that will deter certain bugs, but if you're like me and have pet's you'll most likely be looking for non-toxic, pet-friendly options.
If you're growing organic and have your cat or dog occasionally wandering into your garden, you aren't going to want to be putting anything on your plants that will effect them or harm you!
I did some research and there are certain plants that will act as a natural deterrent! If you're looking to get rid of aphids, ants, Japanese beetles, ticks, mosquito's and more save this list and plant some of these flowers in your garden!
Four plants that deter pests!
(1) Chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemums are actually perennials - meaning they'll come back every year after you've planted them! Coming in almost every colour you could think of, these flowers will look great in any garden. Chrysanthemums help to deter ants, Japanese beetles, roaches, bed bugs, spider mites, ticks and lice!
(2) Petunias
Petunias are typically annuals, but some varieties are perennials. They're also a safe flower for dogs and cats making them a great choice for animal-friendly gardens. Petunias will attract hummingbirds and butterflies to your garden and repel aphids, tomato worms and asparagus beetles.
Lavender has to be my favourite plant. Lavender is a perennial with an abundance of healing properties. You can either leave lavender alone and let it grow or harvest it for teas and other purposes. Lavender is known to help repel mosquitoes and gnats, yet another reason to love this plant.
Mint is a perennial that will grow like crazy if you let it. So remember to keep it contained when planting. Mint is a versatile herb in dishes, drinks and helps to repel spiders, ants and mosquitoes.
All of these plants are super easy to grow and will make a great addition to your garden while fighting off pests! Which plant are you going to add into your garden?
